What Is a CNP?
(Certified Nutritional Practitioner)
From My Experience:
As a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP), I completed one of Canada’s most comprehensive holistic nutrition programs through the Institute of Holistic Nutrition (IHN). This training combines rigorous science, applied nutrition, and holistic healing strategies.
What makes my perspective unique is that I have been living this lifestyle for many years. Before becoming a CNP, I co-owned a Wellness Clinic for 15 years and raised my children with a holistic approach to food, health, and lifestyle. That lived experience grounds the professional training I bring to my clients today.
Here’s what the designation means in practice:
Rigorous, evidence-based foundation: My studies included core science courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Biological Chemistry, Body Metabolism, Pathology & Nutrition, and Nutrition Research the same scientific grounding you’d expect in early medical training.
Applied clinical nutrition: Courses like Nutritional Symptomatology I & II, Nutritional Pathology, and Lifespan Nutrition trained me to connect symptoms with underlying nutritional imbalances and create targeted, individualized strategies for healing.
Holistic, integrative breadth: I also studied Psychology of Disease, Herbal Medicine, Ayurveda, Fitness & Sports Nutrition, and Nutrition & the Environment—disciplines that highlight how emotional well-being, traditional healing systems, movement, and environment all play a role in health.
Accredited and professional: The IHN diploma and CNP designation are recognized by respected professional bodies, including the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (IONC), the Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners (CANNP), and the Association of Naturopaths of Québec (ANPQ). The program itself is overseen by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) and Education Quality Assurance (EQA).
Ongoing competence: As a licensed professional, I’m required to maintain my certification through continuing education—ensuring my recommendations are current, evidence-informed, and practical.
Direct care, no referral needed: Unlike some health professionals, you don’t need a referral to work with me. Nutritional support is available whenever you’re ready to take that step.

Is menopause just
about aging?
No. Menopause is not a decline or failure of the body and neither is perimenopause, which can begin for some women as early as their 30s. These phases represent a purposeful transition in hormone and brain chemistry as the body gradually shifts out of its reproductive years.
During perimenopause and menopause, the nervous system and endocrine system change how they communicate, adapt, and prioritize energy. When these shifts are supported appropriately, many women experience greater clarity, resilience, and strength rather than loss.
Although perimenopause and menopause are natural transitions, the hormonal and neurological shifts can feel challenging, especially in today’s high-stress, fast-paced world. During perimenopause (which can begin for some women in their 30s), fluctuating estrogen and progesterone levels begin to influence neurotransmitters, blood sugar regulation, sleep, mood, and stress response.
Symptoms are not a sign that something is “wrong,” but rather signals that the body is adapting and may need different support during this phase. When these underlying systems are supported, many women find their symptoms improve and their resilience increases.
Yes. With the right metabolic, nutritional, and lifestyle support, many women not only feel better during perimenopause and menopause they often feel more grounded, confident, and mentally clear than they did before.
These phases can represent a shift away from constant output and caretaking toward greater self-direction, perspective, and leadership. By supporting foundational systems such as blood sugar balance, nervous system regulation, sleep, and digestion, the body is better able to adapt to hormonal and neurological changes and move into this next phase with strength and resilience.
GLP-1 Support with Compassion & Clarity
Weight isn’t just willpower. Obesity is a disease—and you deserve care that treats it that way.
At Your Functional Nutritionist, we meet you where you are. If you’re using GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, you’re not “cheating”—you’re treating. These medications are powerful tools for managing obesity, metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance, and other health concerns.
But medication is only one piece of the puzzle.
- Because obesity is a complex, chronic disease—not a character flaw.
- Because rapid weight loss can come with challenges like muscle loss, blood sugar swings, and digestive shifts.
- Because you deserve coaching, nutrition support, and a plan that honors your changing body and metabolism.
- Because behavior change, habit-building, and blood sugar balance matter more now than ever.
